SOMO has made an important step in our ability to coordinate resources for practices within and across teams. If you can Volunteer during some or all practices and events, choose Bowling at: http://somdmontgomery.org/volsignup_for_sport.htm

For the Role, choose what you would like to focus on (there is also overlap to roles). Some examples for each of the roles available are:
Head Coach = divisions, trains, and coordinates competitions for the entire SOMO team
Assistant Coach = guides the skill develop and game play for a small group of Athletes via demonstration and suggestions for improvement of skills
Admin = helps with sign-in/management, informal or formal officiating (recording scores)
Chaperone = drives and/or is in charge of one or more Athletes at practices/events

BE SURE TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST IN TRAINING FOR THIS SPORT BY USING THE ONLINE ATHLETE REGISTRATION FORM or ONLINE VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION FORM. All athletes/volunteers must register prior to attending practice. The forms will be available a few weeks prior to the sport's season.

Bowling Schedule

Bowling will start Sept 11, 2010.  We bowl at Bowl America on Clopper Rd in Gaithersburg.   We bowl from 12-2 p.m. MOST Saturdays. Bowlers need to be in their lanes ready to bowl by 11:50 or they may lose their spot to an alternate.  Counselors and parents must be at the lanes ready to pick up bowlers at least 20 minutes before 2 p.m. as many lanes finish early.

October is a month with some changes to the above schedule.  The first weekend in October we will participate in regional competition in Frederick, MD.  All bowlers are encouraged to participate in the regional competition and we will help arrange for transportation so that no one is left out. At this moment I am not certain when we will be offered slots, but I do know that athletes will participate only in the morning or afternoon.  It is NOT an all day event..

October 23 and 30 we will bowl from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  There is a bowling tournament taking place at Bowl America on those days from 1-7 p.m.   That is why we need to bowl earlier. Bowlers need to be in lanes by 9:50 or risk losing their spot to an alternate. These are the only two Saturdays when our regular practice will begin at 10 and end at 12.

The State Games will be the first weekend in December at the Clopper Road Bowl America.  Only athletes winning gold medals at the regional competition will be eligible to compete in the State Games.
