From Pam Yerg, Area Director

Fit for Sport! Let’s all make that our New Year’s Resolution! We have so many wonderful sports programs in SOMO and it is a thrill to see so many of our athletes taking part in sports training in all four seasons of the year! But there is limited time in each 8 week season to really get fit for the sports that we  participate in, and before we know it, we are competing in local and state competitions, and then moving on to the next sport!

It is vital to our health and to our ability to be the best athletes that we can be that we concentrate all year long on good nutrition and on getting fit for sport! Even if we train in a sport every season, we need to put in the extra time during the week to eat healthy food, to drink lots of water and to get exercise! Take a walk, do your stretches, walk up and down stairs, go to the gym, go for a swim! And remember: a New Year’s Resolution can be made every day of the year! So, let’s make a “New Day Resolution” to get fit for sport! And for each other!

The management team is working on a plan to offer a year long fitness class and need volunteers and a facility to help us make this happen. If any of our parents, coaches, volunteers and community friends are interested in helping us make this happen, please contact Pam Yerg.

The SOMO Gift Envelope is a simple way for you and  your  family and friends to remember, honor or celebrate a special person or event any time of the year by simply completing the information on the pre-printed envelope, enclosing a check and off it goes! An acknowledgement will be sent to the recipient of the honor and you will receive acknowledgement as well. We will feature a special box in future editions of the Relay to announce the SOMO gifts and honorees. What better way to celebrate the wonderful people and events in our lives while supporting  a program that celebrates our Special Olympic athletes! Contact Lorrie White if you would like to receive envelopes: Lorriebw@verizon.net
