Text Box: Happy New Year… and
Be My Valentine! :)
As this issue of the Relay goes to press, our winter season is well under way and will feature a record number of athletes training and competing in floor hockey, bowling, basketball, alpine and cross country skiing and snow shoeing! We developed a high school 3v3 basketball league and grew our juniors basketball program to a league of 11 teams!
Special Olympics Montgomery is an all-volunteer organization that offers 4 seasons of sports training and competition in 18 sports as well as leadership programs for children and adult athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Our volunteer coaches provide a loving and dedicated training program in each of Text Box: our sports … and we need you to reach out to family and friends and encourage them to get involved as volunteers in SOMO!
The funding for all of our programs is crucial. The facilities, the uniforms and equipment, the awards, the travel, competition, and lodging costs comes from our families, friends, and community partners who believe in our mission. We do not receive any federal, state or local funding and depend upon our 3 fund-raisers to support our year round programs: The Fall Bowl-a-thon, The Spring Inspiration Walk, and The Summer Montgomery Masters Golf Tournament. Please support these fund-raisers and please consider making a donation to SOMO . While donations to the State Program ( SOMd) Text Box: are important, remember that donations made to Special Olympics Md-Montgomery (SOMd) stay 100% in our program serving our athletes. Contact Pam Yerg to find out how you can help us reach our funding goals.
If you have been involved in our programs, you know the thrill of success that our athletes experience and the warmth of the friendships that we all share. If you are new to our programs …
welcome, and you have a treat in store for you!
Contact me to get involved in our management team or to help us reach out to sponsors and volunteers that you know.
