Text Box: Athletes age 15 and older are invited to join the SOMO Swim Team. This is not a “learn to swim program” and we encourage athletes to train with us who have a good comfort level with the water and who wish to train for competition in local, regional and state swim meets. All new and returning swimmers MUST sign-up by calling the hotline or sending in the sign up form in this newsletter. The Swim season begins a bit earlier than the other Spring sports ( Saturday March Text Box: 3rd) to give us a “leg up “ ( or a flipper up!) in our training!
Stone Ridge School has generously offered to host the SOMO swim team training this year AND a SOMO swim meet! The Stone Ridge students will volunteer with our swimmers. Special thanks to Stone Ridge! We are continuing to look into the development of a juniors swim program.  If you are interested in helping to develop a juniors swim team or in having your child participate in one, please email Pam Yerg.

Our Recreational Spring season will begin Saturday March 24 and run until May Text Box: As this newsletter goes to press, we are proud to congratulate the largest SOMO delegation to compete in the Winter 10 Pin State Games ever! Our 20 athletes and many coaches and families had a wonderful and medal-filled day!
Congratulations to these fine athletes and sportsmen and women! Space is very limited and slots are given first to those athletes who are not participating in any other sport this season. Please be sure to call the hotline or send in your sign up form! We will begin taking sign up requests 4 days after this newsletter is mailed out in order to give all SOMO athletes a fair chance to get into this very popular program! The first sign up date will be announced on the hotline 301– 924-6965.

The group of SOMO athletes who have been training in bocce since its first appearance in Special Olympics a few years ago are a very close knit group of friends who welcome new additions to the team and are eager to share their experiences with you.
We will travel to attend at least Text Box: one Bocce tournament and will host our own bocce tournament on Sunday May 6th at Churchill High School. Athletes must sign up for bocce, attend all practices and the qualifying tournaments in order to be eligible for consideration for state competition.

Our bocce team will begin training on a new day this year! We will train on Saturdays from 10-11:30 at the MargatetSchweinhaut Senior Center in Wheaton—1000 Forest Glen Rd. (301) -681-1255.
This year Coach Pappa Looch and Coach Chuck will be joined by Coach Renny Springuel as we prepare for competition in the Maryland Summer Games.
