GOLF Our SOMO Golf Team features training in levels 1-4 at this time. All athletes must begin at level 1(skills) and be assessed through state sanctioned competition at a qualifying score before moving to level 2 (9 holes, every other ball with a Unified Partner). All athletes are required to have a Unified Partner train and compete with them. If all athletes from last season’s team return, there will not be any openings on the team this season. We train mid week beginning in early August and attend travel competitions on weekends through the season in prep for the state games in early October. If you are interested in being added to our wait list, please sign up either on-line or via the mail in sign-up in this issue. If you have questions about the program contact Head Coach Chuck Hellmuth at cthjr413@aol.com |

TENNIS Our Tennis Pilot Program went very well last fall and is back this fall! Because of the popularity of the program and facility limitations, we will limit the athlete slots to 30. First preference will be given to those returning tennis athletes who sign up before June 15th. We offer training in the basic skills of tennis with the goal that each player advance to mixed doubles with a Unified Partner. We have 4 levels of training: juniors and beginners, Intermediate ( high school and young adult), seniors and advanced players. We train on Sunday late afternoons ( 4:00-6:00) at the outdoor tennis courts in Cabin John Park beginning on Sunday August 17th through October 19th . We are very fortunate to have the MCTA ( Montgomery County Tennis Association) as our partners. These skilled and wonderful tennis players coach our athletes and prepare them for local and state competition. The State Fall Games will be Saturday October 25th. Questions about the program? Email Pam Yerg at jeyclan@verizon.net |

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING Our Fall Cross Country Running Program will begin with a Summer Run Program led by Coach Bob Stack and several of our Cross Country parents. Athletes wishing to participate in the Fall Cross Country Running Team should plan to attend the summer runs whenever possible. Coach SpongeBob will need the assistance of parents and older siblings to help with chaperone and leadership duties in the Summer Run Program. Runners will meet at Olney Park once a week and work on stretching and running techniques as they prepare for the Fall Cross Country Season and competition in local, regional and state Road Races. Sign up in this issue of Relay or on-line and check the website for details TBA regarding the days and times for summer training. Fall Cross Country training will be at Good Counsel High School in Olney. |
