MONTGOMERY RELAY

Text Box: Cross Country Program
New and exciting this year!
Our very dedicated track and field coaching staff “SpongeBOB” Stack, Joyce Plaxen and Donna Morere joined other county programs in establishing a Cross Country Team this fall.
Athletes who “just didn’t get enough of Coach SpongeBOB and running in the spring” kept on running! Text Box: The Cross Country Program is new to Montgomery County and to the state sports calendar this year.
SOMO Cross Country runners have gathered at Lake Needwood once or twice a week since the middle of summer to train for 2K and 5K races that have been offered in a few of the counties that have a cross country team. SOMO will host a 2K and 5K Race on Sunday October 29th to finish the Cross Country Season with a Text Box: bang! Look for the Cross Country Program to really grow next summer and fall with 2K and 5K races all over Maryland! Our track and field program officially begins in the Spring, but if you are interested in year-round running, please contact Coach Bob Stack and he can let you know what other running opportunities he has up his sleeve! stack527@aol.com

SOMO Golf Team

The SOMO golf team program has been building for 4 years now and has become a very close-knit and dedicated team coached by Chuck Hellmuth, Larry Jacobs and Steve Coran.

A SOMO athlete enters the Golf Team program with a Unified Partner ( parent, family friend or counselor) and makes a multiple season  commitment to training and achieving personal goal levels. Level 1-5 are offered. It takes hard work and dedication to training all year long to develop the skill to compete in level 1 ( skill level) and qualify to move to level 2 ( 9 holes, every other ball with Unified Partner). We are proud to announce that Joe Cumberpatch and Spencer Jacobs competed at the State Games this year in level 2. It was also an exciting season for Nick Bass and Alexander Richardson as they qualified and competed this season in level 2 .

We have a wonderful level 1 team of hard-hitting golfers who have trained and competed at Regional and State Competition in skills competition: Congratulations to Jill Durbin, Joe Wu, Kathleen Maloney, Manoj Kumaroo, Mack Rill, John Bogasky,J ay Cromwell, Eric Matthews, Stephen Sabia and Adam Russell. Because of the complexity of  golf training and competition, spaces on the golf team are limited and there are expanded requirements. Please contact Pam Yerg if you wish to be added to the wait list for the Golf Team Program in 2007.
