Fall  Season—the start of a new sport year

Created by The Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation

Authorized and Accredited by Special Olympics International for the Benefit of Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities

MONTGOMERY RELAY

Thank you to the generous sponsors, volunteers, and tournament  committee who made the 5th Annual Montgomery Masters Golf Tournament and Auction such a success! A fabulous time was had by all and we reached our fund-raising goal!

We need all of our families to be involved with this event!

From Pam Yerg, Area Director

This Fall Issue of the Relay is arriving in your homes a little later than we had hoped due to a last minute Soccer Facility  crisis!  I am working hard with our friends at MSI who will help us find a “new soccer home” for both our Seniors and our TOPSoccer teams….

Planning a sport season requires “juggling a lot of balls”! All of the facilities and practice sites must be identified, secured and contracted.  Coaches and Assistant  Coaches and volunteers for each sport must be identified and trained. Training and competition dates must be set and preparation for those competitions must be planned. Uniforms and equipment must be purchased and prepared. SOMO families and athletes must be notified .All of this takes place for training in many sports, many teams and hundreds of SOMO athletes every season—four seasons a year! WHEW! Our Management Team and Team of  dedicated Coaches make this all happen … and we need YOU to consider joining that effort. SOMO needs parents and community friends to consider joining the volunteer efforts that make our program possible. Our Coaches work very hard to give our SOMO athletes a remarkable sports experience : to teach them skills and help them to blossom as athletes and as team mates and friends.

Please contact me if you can give us the gift of your time serving as a team manager, assistant coach, coach or member of our Management Team. You can reach me at 301 424 3083 or jeyclan@verizon.net.

We can’t do it without you!

The SOMO Gift Envelope is a simple way for you and  your  family and friends to remember, honor or celebrate a special person or event any time of the year by simply completing the information on the pre-printed envelope, enclosing a check and off it goes! An acknowledgement will be sent to the recipient of the honor and you will receive acknowledgement as well. We will feature a special box in future editions of the Relay to announce the SOMO gifts and honorees. What better way to celebrate the wonderful people and events in our lives while supporting  a program that celebrates our Special Olympic athletes! Contact Lorrie White if you would like to receive envelopes: Lorriebw@verizon.net
