Text Box: Our Spring Season began with HUGE participation in all of our programs!
Our Senior softball team returns with a few new faces from the basketball program and is training hard under the coaching genius of Coach Bob Golden and his son Alex! They will compete in 3 qualifiers this year on their way to the summer games “hunt for the gold”.
Our juniors t-ball partnership with PASA is growing and has 15 young athletes and another 10 buddies learning the basics of the game, and new this year is the middle and high school Coach Pitch Program! Our 20 older juniors are training on a team coached by Jimmy Rill and his son Jake. They will learn the skills to play softball and move towards training and competing as a SOMO softball team in the next couple of seasons.
The track and field team is huge! 60 athletes came out to train and our SOMO Regional Games held at Churchill High School on Sunday May 6th was wonderful! We hosted Frederick and Howard County track teams and everyone had great performances! Even some record Text Box: performances! Thank you Churchill High School for generously hosting our training season and our Regional Spring Games! Our bocce team hosted Frederick and Carol Counties and is training hard for summer games competition in individual, doubles and team competition. If you have an interest in learning more about bocce, I encourage you to talk with Ben Collins and Owen White—our resident experts on the game! They will invite you to join this very close-knit group of athletes in a fun and social sport.	And talk about growth in a program: our Seniors Swim Team—The Sharks is bigger than ever! 39 athletes are training on Text Box: the swim team this year with many new faces. We hosted a swim meet at Stone Ridge School on Saturday the 5th of May and our friends from Frederick County came out to swim! Our new Community Partner The Stone Ridge School has very generously offered the use of the pool facility and several of the Stone Ridge students worked with our athletes as volunteers. Thank you Stone Ridge! The meet was the first of 3 qualifiers that our athletes will attend in their quest to become state eligible for competition at the State Summer Games.
Our Spring teams have all worked very hard and become much more skilled in their sport and much closer friends with their team-mates….all of the “good stuff” that we are about in SOMO!
We have received our allotment for our Summer Games Delegation and as this issue of the Relay goes to press we will be selecting and registering our Summer Games Delegation. Congratulations to all of the athletes who trained so hard this spring and to those who will compete under the SOMO banner this June 8-9-10 at Towson State University!
