Sr Soccer

Season: August/September/October Tryouts on 9-4-2010.
Training: Saturdays, Sept 4 - October 16 2010
Where: 10:00 to 11:30 at Dewey Local Park in Wheaton on all Saturdays in the soccer season. It is off of Randolph Road near Viers Mill. There is a light at Dewey Road. The Wheaton Bus # 38 stops right at the intersection of Dewey and Fern Hill which is right across the street from the parking lot next to the field.
Competition: Local tournaments to be set. State Competition at Fruitland, MD on October 24 2010.
Seniors Soccer is for athletes 21 and older. Tryouts on Aug 28 will be used to determine skill ability.
Practice dates are Sept 4-11-18-25 Oct 2-9-16
There will be at lest two travel League play and one home League play as qualifiers during the season. Due to the new " Team Formation according to age categories" there may be some consideration of re-organizing the SOMO Senior team into two teams. Team formation will depend on Coaching staff availability and the number of interested players. Coaches will make assessments of each athlete's appropriate placement following the first two practice sessions. All athletes wishing to participate in Seniors Soccer must go online to sign up. The mail in sign up will be available in the Fall newsletter, but we would appreciate knowing who plans to play as soon as we can.
SOMO has made an important step in our ability to coordinate resources for
practices within and across teams. If you can Volunteer during some or all
practices and events, choose Soccer-SR at:

For the Role, choose what you would like to focus on (there is also overlap to
roles). Some examples for each of the roles available are:
Head Coach = divisions, trains, and coordinates competitions for the entire SOMO
team
Assistant Coach = guides the skill develop and game
play for a small group of Athletes via demonstration and suggestions for
improvement of skills
Unified Partner = plays alongside an Athlete partner
(not available for all sports)
Admin = helps with sign-in/management, informal or formal officiating (recording
scores)
Chaperone = drives and/or is in charge of one or more Athletes at
practices/events
BE SURE TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST IN TRAINING FOR THIS SPORT BY USING THE ONLINE ATHLETE REGISTRATION FORM or ONLINE VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION FORM. All athletes/volunteers must register prior to attending practice. The forms will be available a few weeks prior to the sport's season.
The opening of the Senior Soccer Season is postponed until Saturday Sept. 4th. We had hoped to hold our first practice this Saturday August 28th, but the Mo Co soccer fields are officially "closed" to permitted use until August 31. Last year, as many of you recall, the park police asked our team to leave the field and we don't want to risk that, or anger our facility providers! Because the season is short , Coach Tim is looking into a field that may be available for us to hold a mid week practice. Details will be announced at the first team practice. If you know of other SOMO athletes who intend to participate in Senior Soccer please pass along this information AND please advise them to go online and sign up for Senior Soccer!
