Athletics (Track and Field)

Season: March/April/May/June
Training: Sundays 1-2:30 starting March 21 2010 thru June. Additional practices on Fridays 5-6 pm.
Athletes age 7 and older are invited to join the track and field team. We offer juniors (grades 1-5), Intermediate ( grades 6-12) and seniors level ( age 21 and older) training and competition. You may choose to train with the team for general physical fitness or to train to qualify to be eligible for consideration for selection for competition in summer games. Track and Field season opens Sunday, March 21 at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney from 1-2:30. Trainings will be on Sundays 1-2:30 and on Fridays from 5-6:00 PM at Lake Needwood - at the boat docks). Athletes must indicate their interest in training for eligibility for state competition in the first two weeks of the season, and make a commitment to training and attendance at a minimum of two sanctioned events ( to include the SOMO Spring Games) as a competition requirement. Details about training and competitions will be presented at the first practice by Team Manager Joyce Plaxen. Competition: local time trials tbd at Good Counsel HS, Howard County Regional tbd, our local Regional Tournament Sunday May 2 2010 at Good Counsel HS. State games are June 11-13 2010 at Towson Univ.

SOMO has made an important step in our ability to coordinate resources for
practices within and across teams. If you can Volunteer during some or all
practices and events, choose Athletics at:

For the Role, choose what you would like to focus on (there is also overlap to
roles). Some examples for each of the roles available are:
Head Coach = divisions, trains, and coordinates competitions for the entire SOMO
team
Assistant Coach = guides the skill develop and game
play for a small group of Athletes via demonstration and suggestions for
improvement of skills
Unified Partner = plays alongside an Athlete partner
(not available for all sports)
Admin = helps with sign-in/management, informal or formal officiating (recording
scores)
Chaperone = drives and/or is in charge of one or more Athletes at
practices/events
BE SURE TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST IN TRAINING FOR THIS SPORT BY USING THE ONLINE ATHLETE REGISTRATION FORM or ONLINE VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION FORM. All athletes/volunteers must register prior to attending practice. The forms will be available a few weeks prior to the sport's season.
