Adult 5v5 Basketball Leagues (age 22 and older)

The adult (age 22 and older) 5v5 basketball leagues are made up of COMPETITION teams that train and compete in travel qualifiers and State Games.  There are two formats available:

(1) Traditional teams made up entirely of Special Olympics athletes

(2) Player Development Unified (PDU) teams, which consist of three Special Olympics athletes on the court along with two unified partners that play with the team and provide on-court coaching.

Athletes interested in playing in either format should sign up for adult 5v5 basketball; determination of placement on a traditional or PDU team will be made by the coaches after the first two weeks of the season (try-outs).

The adult 5v5 basketball teams are split between two venues for their practices, Potomac Community Center (PCC) and The Barrie School.  Each team trains at only one of the two designated sites.  The PCC league consists of two traditional teams with experienced players, representing our highest levels of competition.  The Barrie league will have up to four teams with players ranging from new to experienced, and is the location that also offers a PDU team, if appropriate.

Potomac Community Center:  11315 Falls Rd, Potomac, MD 20854

The Barrie School:  13500 Layhill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20906

SIGN-UP INFORMATION  All players who are rostered to a team must make the commitment to attend practices regularly and to attend both required qualifiers as well as the State Tournament. Your team depends on you!

Players should show up to the first tryout for the team they sign up for; you will not necessarily be contacted by a coach or coordinator between signing up and the first tryout.  If you have questions, contact us!  Otherwise, we’ll see you on the court!  Teams will be determined by the coaching support that we have and the number of athletes who come out for those levels.  Coaches will determine the best fit for a player.

All athletes/volunteers must sign up for sport training prior to attending practice. Please sign up online as soon as possible so that we can make plans for coaching needs.

Athlete and volunteer application’s must be current UP TO THE date of the State Games for your sport.  If you are unsure of an athlete’s status, click HERE to see list of names and expiration dates.
