Adult 5v5 Basketball League (age 22 and older)

COMPETITION Leagues train and compete in travel qualifiers and State Games.

TRADITIONAL 5v5 Format Teams train and compete in full-court basketball with all Special Olympic athletes on the roster

PDU (Player Development Unified) Format pairs Special Olympic athletes with Unified Partners/Mentors in an equal number and provides support for the player that still is building confidence, skill and understanding of full court basketball before moving to a Traditional 5v5 format. Adult PDU teams will be formed based on athlete need, numbers, and coach support.

Where:

  • Barrie League  (13500 Layhill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20906): Try-outs for players who played on the Adult 5v5 Barrie teams last season or who wish to try out for an Adult 5v5 team should attend try outs at the Barrie School on both Dec. 11th and 18th, 2016 from 12:30-2:30 . Athlete assessment is mandatory. Coaches will determine rosters and notify players of their team placement. Players will be placed on either a Traditional 5v5  Adult team or on an Adult Player Development Unified Team (PDU).All Barrie Adult 5v5 teams will train on Sundays at the Barrie School beginning Jan. 8th, 2017 from 12:30-2:30.   • PCC League (11315 Falls Rd, Potomac, MD 20854): Try-outs for players who played on Team Golden or Team Bausch are December  18th (ONLY December 18th, 2016) from 9:30-11:30.Teams Golden and Bausch will train on Sundays: 9:30 to 11:30 am at Potomac Community Center beginning Jan. 8th, 2017.

Competition: Maryland State Basketball Tournament is March 25/26, 2017

There will be at least one additional “traveling qualifier” required of all teams in order to qualify for competition in the Maryland State Basketball Tournament. All players who are rostered to a team must make the commitment to attend practices regularly and to attend both required qualifiers as well as the State Tournament. Your team depends on you!

Notes: Athlete assessment is mandatory and will be held in the  December 11th and 18th, 2016 try-outs.

Players should come to the program that they signed up for or wish to play in. Teams will be determined by the coaching support that we have and the number of athletes who come out for those levels. Coaches will determine the best fit for a player.

All athletes/volunteers must sign up for sport training prior to attending practice. Please sign up online as soon as possible so that we can make plans for coaching needs.
