Where: Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center (1000 Forest Glen Road, Silver Spring, MD 20901)

Competition: Our local Regional Tournament  is scheduled for Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Landon School. Another qualifier will be on April 30, 2017 in Anne Arundel County at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis MD. There will also be a qualifier at Charles County on May 6, 2017 at 9am.

State Games: June 9-11, 2017 at Towson University

All athletes are required by SOMD to attend 8 practices and 2 qualifiers in order to be eligible to participate in the state games.

Bocce (Italian lawn Bowling) trains on Saturdays. It is important that athletes arrive promptly and ready to train. Late arrivals have a serious negative impact on how the training session are organized.  Late arriving athletes may not be able to start practice immediately, they will have to wait until there is a break in the practice before they are inserted in the rotations.

We welcome new athletes to our bocce program, but because of coaching/staff limitations and the amount of individual assessment required for competition eligibility, athletes who wish to train in bocce with the intent of being considered for eligibility for competition at summer games must commit to bocce as their primary sport.

Athletes who intend to train for state competition eligibility must commit to attending the required sanctioned events which may include the Naval Academy Games in April and will include our own local SOMO Spring Games in May. Details on other competition opportunities and on training requirements will be provided by Coach Renny at the first practice.

High school athletes in MCPS who played in the corollary sports bocce teams are welcome to join the SOMO bocce team!

We will consider an additional training site if we have the athlete and the coach support to do so!  If you have another training site in mind please contact coach Renny.
