Head Coach: Chuck Hellmuth, and Shelly Bogasky  Email: golf@somdmontgomery.org Season: Pre-season practices will be held June 7th, June 14th & June 21st 2017 from 5:30-7 pm (Wed nights). 

When: The Official season starts August 2nd and ends October 1st, 2017. We will practice weekly on Wednesdays at Northwest 5:30 to closing with on course play available after instructional practice on driving range and putting greens.  Weekend qualifying tournaments begin in August and details will be made available to registered players.raining:  2017 Official season training will be every Wednesday.  August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 2017. Practice is 5:30 to 7.  September 6, 13, 20 and  27 2017 practice is 5-6:30 (to adjust for the fading daylight).  NOTE change in practice times in Aug and Sept to adjust for fading daylight.

CompetitionTwo qualifiers are required in order to qualify for State Competition. All Athletes are expected to compete. The Montgomery County Qualifier will be held at Rattlewood Golf Club 9-3-17. All SOMO athletes are expected to compete in our SOMO-hosted Rattlewood Qualifier AND we will need volunteers from our ranks of parents and families to assist in running the Rattlewood qualifier.

The State Competition will be in held  October 1, 2017 at Queenstown Harbor Golf for all levels. 

NOTE THAT EVERY ATHLETE MUST HAVE A UNIFIED PARTNER TO JOIN THE TEAM AND COMMIT TO PRACTICING ON THEIR OWN OUTSIDE OF THE NORMAL PRACTICE SEASON to join the team!  New Athletes must contact GOLF@SOMDMONTGOMERY.ORG before signing up! Equipment requirements: Golf bag, golf shoes (optional for level 1), golf glove, a Driver,3 wood, 4 iron, wedge, and putter. We provide balls.

We are proud to offer training and competition in Skills Golf ( Level 1- development of golf skills), and as athletes and Unified Training Partners demonstrate Skills Mastery, they will advance to training and competition in  Levels 2-5. The athlete is the only one to compete in Level 1 but it is important for the Unified Training Partner to participate in practices and to practice with the athlete outside of our regular practices as our Unified Training Partners become  true Unified Partners as the athlete moves to level 2.

Skills Golf (level 1)   The Skills program offers individual new athletes the opportunity to learn the basic skills of golf through 6 events. The will have 5 shots at each event to score points at each event:

  • Short Putt
  • Long Putt
  • Chip Shot
  • Pitch Shot
  • Iron Shot
  • Wood Shot

Levels 2-5

  • Level 2 — Unified Alternate Shot Stroke Play (9 holes)
  • Level 3 — Unified Alternate Shot Stroke Play (18 holes)
  • Level 4 — Individual Athlete Stroke Play (9 holes)
  • Level 5 — Individual Athlete Stroke Play (18 holes)

All athletes/volunteers must sign up for sport training prior to attending practice. Please sign up online as soon as possible so that we can make plans for coaching needs.
