SOMO High School Soccer

High School Soccer Team: Under 22 Competition Team

The High School Competitive Teams ( we will likely form 2 teams) are focused on training set rosters for competition in State Games. Athletes who are interested in trying out for this option MUST attend try-outs in August. Athletes of High School age who would prefer a skill development based soccer experience with skill games and small-sided soccer games should sign up for TOPSoccer MS/HS League which begins in September and is much lower key with focus on skill development and fun!

Head Coach:  Katie Detweiler  and Michael Klamm  Contact: hs-soccer@somdmontgomery.org

Season: August/September/October 2017

Tryouts: August 13, August 27, 2017  3-4:30 . Roster space is limited. Athletes not placed on one of the two traveling competition teams will be encouraged to participate in the TOPSoccer program and continue to  develop skills and have a great time learning the game of soccer!

Training: Every Sunday, September 10 through October 22, 2017 3-4:30

Where: We will begin at Potomac Community Center 11315 Falls Rd Potomac, MD 20854, and may possibly move to The Bullis School to continue the season training

State Tournament: October 29, 2017, Crown Sports Center, Fruitland, MD – the team roster will be decided based on attendance and skill, as demonstrated throughout the season.

Under 22 Soccer Team is for athletes 15-22. Tryouts on August 13th and 27th will be used to determine skill ability in determining which athletes will participate in TOPSoccer MS/HS and which athletes will be part of this 2 year old under 22 competitive soccer team.  Practice will be held in conjunction of one another at the Potomac Community Center.  There will be at least one travel league play and one home league play as qualifiers. Coaches will make assessments of each athlete’s appropriate placement following the first two try-out sessions. Athletes and all volunteer coaches MUST sign up early so that we know who plans to play.

FOR ATHLETES AGES 6 THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL (AGE 21)

For athletes ages 6 through High School (age 22) SOMO has developed a partnership with MSI Soccer called TOPSoccer. TOPSoccer is a US Youth Coaches National program designed to proved soccer skills training and game play to people with disabilities. SOMO offer 3 TOPSoccer Leagues: YAP and Elementary League, Middle School League and High School League. We recruit area MSI youth soccer players as our TOPSoccer Buddies and provide a fun and playful opportunity to learn the game of soccer and prepare for advancement to the Senior Soccer Team Program and competition at the State level.

Go to TOPSoccer for more information and to register for TOPSoccer. Those who will participate in TOPSoccer will need to register online through MSI (click on link above) and sign up online as SOMO TOPSoccer option so that we can have access to contact information and make plans for volunteers. Thank you.
