Competition:  We will host an open qualifiers on  9/18 and an in-house qualifier on October 2.  Note that all athletes must compete in at least two qualifiers in order to be eligible for State Competition at Fallfest Games held on October 22, 2016.  Other counties are planning to host qualifiers as well.  We will coordinate those dates as they become available.

It is very important that you attend all practices and that you be on time. Please dress according to weather, and tennis shoes are required. No jeans or khakis are allowed.  Please bring a water bottle. If you have your own tennis racket, bring it. We will have equipment to loan to athletes. And above all – bring your enthusiasm!

We offer skills, Singles, Unified doubles, as well as Traditional Doubles Teams (both members of the team are Special Olympic athletes). Training consists of basic skills of tennis with the goal that each player advance to mixed doubles with a Unified Partner, or to Traditional Doubles.

Like mainstream tennis, Special Olympics Tennis gives athletes the opportunity to learn and perform a variety of skills that can be played throughout life.  In addition to offering traditional singles and doubles events, Special Olympics offers individual skills competition to allow athletes to train and compete in basic tennis skills. The development of these key skills is necessary prior to advancing to match play. These skills include racket bounce, “ups,” forehand volley, backhand ground stroke, serve-deuce court, serve-advantage court and alternating ground stroke with movement.

All athletes/volunteers must sign up for sport training prior to attending practice. Please sign up online as soon as possible so that we can make plans for coaching needs.
